Hey there,

Finding a balance between what we feel passionate about and still ensuring we know our practical responsibilities can be quite tricky.

For me, it all came down to knowing how I work best. I do my best brain work first thing in the morning while drinking my coffee. This means I will spend time on administrative tasks, including checking into my community, writing for the magazine, and the newsletter, adding new art to the shop website, the mini-bundle, and anything else that I will need the computer for.

From there, I take a break to either go for a walk or play in the yard with my dogs and then do some quick housekeeping before spending the rest of my day creating art with intermittent breaks.

For me, taking care of the responsibilities is important before switching to the more fun part. Here’s the thing though, my art is also my work. Without creating art, I wouldn’t have anything to sell at events or inventory at the galleries and gift shops. To me, making art is the easy fun part though and so it makes sense to focus on that after the responsibilities are taken care of.

Creative Challenge: Create a balanced schedule for the week. Here’s how:

  • Identify Tasks: List your creative projects and practical responsibilities.
  • Prioritize: Determine which tasks are most important and urgent.
  • Time Blocks: Allocate specific time blocks in your day for creative work and practical tasks.
  • Stick to the Plan: Follow your schedule as closely as possible, but remain flexible for adjustments.

Resource Recommendation: Explore time management techniques such as the Eisenhower Matrix or Time Blocking. These methods can help you prioritize tasks and create a balanced schedule. Check out resources on websites like Todoist or books like “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen R. Covey.

Figuring out how and when you work best for your everyday responsibilities will help you structure your time more effectively. Not everyone can do brain work right out of bed at 7 am. For you, it might look like the complete opposite of what my day is like.

If you’re finding it difficult to find some structure, hit reply, and let’s talk about it.

Stay wild-hearted!

Cheers,

Petra
